A beautiful 1879 S Reverse of 1878, silver Morgan dollar graded MS 64 by PCGS. It carries a strong strike throughout both sides with mostly blast white and very lustrous attractive surfaces. It holds some light purple hued toning throughout the rims of both sides. A very appealing coin for the grade that has been well earned. This variety has been extremely popular lately and harder to come by in this grade or higher. It is one of the nicest examples we have ever offered.
This San Francisco Mint date in general is extremely common with a huge mintage of 9,110,000. However, of this mintage the PCGS Coin Facts estimates only 8,900 have survived today that are this 1879 S Reverse of 1878 variety. This coin is one of only 614 graded Mint State 64 by PCGS.
