1860 $5 Liberty Head Half Eagle NGC AU 55 About Uncirculated Tough Date !

A very attractive 1860 liberty head half eagle gold piece graded AU 55 by NGC. It carries a great strike throughout both sides with attractive original and appealing surfaces. This Philadelphia Mint date is very tough to obtain in any condition as a very small number have survived today. We believe this to be the only one we have ever offered in any condition. It has been stored in a slightly older style NGC holder. This Philadelphia Mint coin holds a very low mintage of 19,763. However, of this mintage the PCGS Coin Facts estimates that only 100 have survived in all grades today! This coin is one of only 39 graded About Uncirculated 55 by NGC. However, we doubt this number is correct as we suspect many have been cracked out of their holders and tried for upgrades due to the value increase.
