1854 O $2.5 Quarter Eagle Liberty Head Gold NGC AU 55 Old Holder Lustrous !

A very sharply struck 1854 O liberty head quarter eagle gold piece graded AU 55 by NGC. It holds an exceptional strike wtih very lustrous and flashy surfaces among both sides. We believe that this coin would have been graded at least three points or more higher but that the few minor scratches on the obverse held it back. It has a line going off of the five star to her head and another between the third and fourth star on the right side. This coin also has a neat die crack coming down from star #7. This appealing coin has been housed in an old time NGC holder. 

This New Orleans Mint date has a total mintage of only 153,000. Of this mintage, the PCGS Coin Facts estimates that only 700 have survived in all grades today. It is one of only 148 graded About Uncirculated 55 by NGC.
