1809/6 1/2C Classic Head Half Cent PCGS AU 50 About Uncirculated 9 over inverted 9

An attractive 1809 9 over inverted 9 classic head half cent graded AU 50 by PCGS. It carries a great strike throughout both sides with attractive original surfaces. The scratch you see on the obverse is on the holder and is not on the coin. This coin has been stored in a PCGS Secure Label Holder. This coin was minted during the first year of the classic head half cent series. This date is very popular among collectors being the first date of the series. It holds a fairly large mintage of 1,154,575. Of this mintage, the PCGS Coin Facts estimates that only 1,200 have survived in all grades today that are the 1809 9 over inverted 9 variety. This coin is one of only 55 graded AU 50 by PCGS.
