1916 Double Die Obverse 5c Buffalo Head Nickel 1916/16 DDO NGC G 4 Good Tough
A rare 1916 double die obverse, buffalo head nickel graded G 4 by NGC. This key variety coin is by far the toughest buffalo nickel to find for the entire series. We have searched for these at every trade show we have attended and have only ever had less than ten in all of our years in the business/hobby.
You can faintly make out the doubled six on the obverse but can also tell that the coin is the double die obverse variety by the doubled feathers as shown in the close-up photos provided. This date is very common with a high mintage of 63,498,066. However, of this mintage the PCGS Coin Facts estimates that only 400 of these have survived that are this scarce double die obverse variety. It is one of only seven graded to be in Good condition by NGC.
