An absolutely gorgeous 1878 proof only issue key date Shield Nickel graded PR 64 by PCGS. It holds an exceptional proof quality strike with some beautiful golden colored toning throughout the obverse and reverse. This coin is also a minor 'mint error' as it has a planchet flaw on the left side of the shield on the obverse. This stunning coin has been housed in a PCGS Secure Label Holder. A tough key date coin to find lately in a semi 'affordable' grade level.
This proof issue date holds a small mintage of only 2,350. Of this mintage, the PCGS Coin Facts estimates that only 1,900 have survived in all grades today. It is one of only 271 graded Proof 64 by PCGS.
