An attractive 1853 braided hair large cent graded MS 64 BN by PCGS. It holds an exceptional strike throughout both sides with a great deal of red throughout the obverse. We believe PCGS could have easily put this coin in a red brown designated holder. However, it is exceptional for the grade. It does have a few spots on the obverse that look like they have been neutralized. Overall, an above average quality coin for the grade.
This date holds a massive mintage of 6,641,131. Of this mintage, the PCGS Coin Facts estimates that 10,000 have survived in all grades today. This coin is one of only 379 graded Mint State 64 Brown by PCGS.
