An interesting 1843 seated liberty dollar graded Extra Fine Details 'Smoothed' by PCGS. This date is very common for the series and the price is entirely due to the grade and toning. Although PCGS has deemed this coin to have 'surfaces smoothed', we believe it is also artificially toned because of its' crazy colors. However, we still purchased it because we thought it was a really cool looking piece that you never find with this type of color artificial or original. If the toning were original we believe this coin would be worth multiples of what we have this priced at. If you are looking for an 'Investment' piece we Do Not recommend purchasing this one.
It has been housed in a PCGS Secure Label holder. When looking straight onto the coin, it has a more dull appearance. However, when you tilt it in the light it does have extremely colorful and vivid toning as shown in the close up photos provided. This date has a total mintage of 165,100. Of this mintage, the PCGS Coin Facts estimates that only 3,500 have survived in all grades today.
