An 1837 classic head half eagle $5 gold piece graded AU 58 by ICG. It has a nice strong strike with attractive and original lustrous surfaces. These early gold coins have been extremely difficult to find lately in decent grades such as this example.
This Philadelphia mint coin has a total mintage of just 207,121. Of this mintage, the PCGS Coin Facts estimates that only 350 have survived in all grades today.
