An early 1836 Script 8, classic head gold piece graded AU 58 by NGC. These early gold coins has been much harder to find lately than in previous years. This example has a good overall strike with nice feather details on the reverse and sharply struck stars on the obverse. It has been housed in an older style NGC holder.
This early American gold coin has a total mintage of just 547,986. Of this mintage, the PCGS Coin Facts estimates that only 1,250 have survived being the 'Script 8' style such as this one. It is one of only 203 graded About Uncirculated 58 by NGC.
