1804 1C Draped Bust Large Cent Private Restrike PCGS MS 63 BN Uncirculated

A beautiful 1804 'Private Restrike' draped bust large cent graded MS 63 BN by PCGS. A very affordable coin for a mint state restrike example for the 1804 large cent spot. It has been housed in a PCGS Secure Label Holder. This information is provided from NGC on this particular coin: "This issue was created outside of the U. S. Mint around 1860 to fill the demand for scarce 1804 cents. Though having no official status, it has long been sought as an accessory to a collection of U. S. cents. A pair of discarded Mint dies, both badly rusted, were mulled to create this oddity. The obverse is that of 1803 S-261, identifiable by its curving crack and crudely altered to read 1804. The reverse die is of the wrong style altogether, dating from 1820 (N-12). Most of the restrikes were produced in copper, but a small number are known in white metal." This popular coin holds a mintage of 96,500 with the PCGS Coin Facts estimating that only 1,000 have survived in all grades today. It is one of only 16 graded Mint State 63 Brown by PCGS.
