1796 1C Liberty Cap Large Cent NGC VG 8 Very Good S 91 Sheldon Variety

A 1796 liberty cap large cent graded VG 8 BN by NGC. This date is very tough to find in any grade level, especially certified as problem free such as this one. NGC has designated this coin to specifically be the Sheldon S-91 variety. It holds a strong '796' in the date on the obverse as well as hair detail. However, the reverse is very weak which we believe to be due to the weak strike this variety coin was given. This date holds a low mintage of 109,825. Of this mintage, the PCGS Coin Facts estimates that only 1,000 have survived in all grades today. this coin is one of only seven graded Very Good 8 by NGC.
